The Evening Standard described them as an ‘Up and Coming band” and DIY magazine called their sound “Hedonistic rock’n’roll tangle”. Vinyl Staircase, the four piece from Dorking, have already made waves in the music world, with BBC Introducing play and a show at the Moth Club in London.
Slowly we’re seeing a resurgence of popularity in the good old fashioned band and Vinyl Staircase are part of that movement. With an EP under their belt and various singles already available on Spotify it's not looking bad for the boys. With all their music self released, and proudly proclaiming on the website that their achievements have all been “completely independent of any representation.” This band are showing independent artists how to do it.
Britpop meets Beach Boys might seem like a weird description but a quick listen to their music and it will soon become clear. Their latest single ‘On the Radio’, is the perfect introduction to the bands music. With slightly more sing along and pop elements to the track, you will soon become fixed by the catchy lyrics and guitar riff. The song is accompanied by a clever video, and shows that good quality visuals can still be made on a budget.
Vinyl Staircase consists of brothers Jake Andrews (guitar, vocals) and Luke Andrews (drums), Mike Thorpe (vocals, guitar) and George Ogle (bass). They are certainly not short of experience having supported a plethora of bands such as Wolf Alice, Blossoms, Sunflower Bean and kicked off the year undertaking their first ever headline show with the tour coming to a head back in February at the Moth Club.
With close to 2000 Instagram followers and similar numbers on other platforms, the band are doing well. Whether this is where a labels expertise come into their own, supporting the growth and exposure of a new act, is another thing to think about. However, with an exciting sound and continuation of their hard work and dedication it's set to look like the band are going to go from strength to strength.
Vinyl Staircase release their next single on the 5th of September 2019.
